Pros:
- Experienced in the position
- Succumbed to conservative political pressure(County Executive Committee - i.e. GOP Precinct Chairs) and voted for 20% Homestead Exemption
- Has backed off of constructing the WPX(Woodlands Parkway Extension), for now, again due to political pressure
Cons:
- Embattled Riley and County Judge Craig Doyal, along w/Montgomery County commissioner Jim Clark were criminally indicted on June 24, 2016, on the charge of conspiring to circumvent citizens involvement through the Texas Open Meetings Act. While a visiting judge (Randy Clapp of Wharton County) shockingly ruled the TOMA law as unconstitutional, AG Ken Paxton wants charges reinstated . An accelerated deliberation has been set for January 24th, by the 9th Court of Appeals (Beaumont). Riley has shelled out $67K in legal fees, with another $50K to be paid!!
- Ceded Constitutional Responsibility of the Office to Judge Doyal
- Client (at one time) of Marc Davenport, who's recently been accused of sexual assault of a child.
- Invited by MCTP PAC at Commissioners Court (11/14/17) to participate in our vetting process, to which he replied (in so many words) - "Not a chance".
- Craig Doyal’s, Charlie Riley’s Tx-249 Tollway “Bait n’ Switch”: oops, they forgot to mention one item…
- Multiple accusations of nepotism, conflicts of interest, and mismanagement pending against him.
- At the center of the tragic Goetzgate affair
- At the center of Trailergate(using county property illegally and without compensation back to county).
- Activities are political promotion of Riley’s and Doyal’s careers under the pretext of “community service” while using government resources for personal and political gain. Has led to Grand Jury investigation.
- Grand Jury has been convened to investigate Riley's improper use of Magnolia Independent School District property for personal and campaign purposes.
- Has been hostile and disrespectful to citizens during Commissioners Court
- Woodlands Township Vice Chair John McMullan directed comments against Riley, Doyal and others on commissioners court with the following..... "Montgomery County does not view The Woodlands as a partner. Montgomery County views The Woodlands as its piggy bank. It is the job of our board for people to stand up and protect our quality of living. This is not personal, but these guys, the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, their record is one of hostility towards The Woodlands."
- An article illustrated that "Commissioner Riley lobbied in Austin for higher property taxes, pro-government growth agenda"
