Note: Most of the following comments, particularly in the Cons section, have come from the attorneys on our panel
Pros
- Qualifications - 5 years as District Court Judge – 75% felony criminal
- Has not been a prosecutor nor defense attorney, so should not have a tendancy to lean one way.
- Has a very conservative background and envolvement in conservative grassroot/tea party organizations
- Record of efficiency & effectiveness (in single judge court setting and in multiple judge court setting)
- Constitutional originalist
- Many endorsements from respected groups (THSC-Tx Homschool Coalition, EmpowerTexans, Texas Right to Life, etc) & prominent individuals
- Strong campaign.
Cons
- Even though a favorite of some Tea Party organizations, she's the least qualified to run for the Court of Appeals that reviews only Criminal Trials and Cases, particularly if she has never tried a criminal case either as a prosecutor or a defense attorney.
- Depth of experience mostly in civil law – trial lawyer.
- With a background in international law and labor law she should perhaps be running for a seat on the Texas Supreme Court.
