Pros

  • Does a good job of cooking and feeding his voters BBQ

Cons

  • Did not participate in our process (automatic 50 point deduction)
  • Riley Faction In Montgomery County Commissioners Court Votes Against Resident Taxpayer Champion Hausman, in favor of unknown Smith for Appraisal District Board.
  • Has a long history of voting for the Consent Agenda at the Commissioners Court where many important votes, having significant financial impacts on the county, are combined together so that only a single vote of approval is needed and there is no transparency through public discussion.
  • Voted in favor of a resolution honoring homosexual adoptions.- 1/14/2017 (Revised it after it was brought to light);
  • Had voted in favor of the 3 mile, $85M 249 Toll Road in Magnolia, when TXDOT would have built that portion for free. This toll road was built after the voters of Montgomery County voted overwhelmingly in opposition to toll roads without them first having a say.
  • Voted during the middle of the COVID pandemic, while so many people were out of work and suffering financially, to remove 5% of the road/bridge funds in order to give a 5% raise to himself and all county employees. This makes his total compensation with a benefit $261,000 plus. The overall cost to taxpayers is $7.3 Million. - Voted 7/29/2021;
  • Colluded with Magnolia ISD employees to use their transportation vehicles and other ISD equipment and personnel for his fundraisers;
  • Voted to take $1.6 Million of taxpayer funds to give to his favorite charities. - VOTED 9/28/2021
  • Voted to pay $16 Million of taxpayer funds on an unusable "advanced" accounting software (ERP) as opposed to a $200,000 for QuickBooks Enterprise software. Yearly maintenance fees alone for the ERP system reportedly cost county taxpayers $700,000;
  • Engages in nepotism and cronyism as demonstrated by Commissioner Riley using his influence to get his wife and his nephew jobs within county government and his awarding the clear-cutting contract for his toll road project to the son of Precinct 4 Commissioner James Metts;
  • Kuykendahl north of Research Forest Blvd. is still a two-lane chokepoint during rush hour, no thanks to Riley, despite Pct 3 widening their portion south of St. Anthony's.
  • Voted in the middle of the COVID pandemic to spend $11 million for an unnecessary Forensics Center which the County did not even qualify for;
  • Failed to oversee the $17.5 million Internal Service Fund which has now completely disappeared;
  • Failed to oversee ESD 10 and the Magnolia FD including its terminated Fire Chief Gary Vincent and Vincent’s $142,000/year girlfriend, who was not qualified for the job that she was given;.
  • Failed to oversee the development of Rivers Edge Subdivision which resulted in the flooding of part of the Carriage Hills subdivision;
  • Failed to achieve “Financial Transparency Stars” recognition from the State Comptroller’s Office for transparency in government.
  • Awards a large number of county projects to his donors as can been seen on Commissioner Riley’s Campaign Finance Reports;
  • Failed to properly oversee that the 2018 construction of the Fish Creek thoroughfare was done properly. This lack of oversight has resulted in that road already needing significant, costly maintenance after only being in place for approximately 24 months;
  • Has a $100,000 slush fund in his precinct 2 account, with expenditures often not following proper tracking procedures;
  • Participated in forming a fake Tea Party group back in 2014 to get elected and has since formed the Republican Voters of Texas PAC and the Republican Club of Montgomery County in an effort to trick voters into electing people to the Montgomery County Republican Party County Executive Committee who are friendly to him and won’t hold him accountable to the Republican Party principles. This effort by Mr. Riley and his campaign manager Kristin Christ continues to this day.
  • Commissioner Riley and his crew are leading the assault on the Republican brand and working to destroy election integrity in Montgomery County.
