Do you think The Woodlands should become a city or remain unincorporated? Why or why not (what are some of the pro's and cons)? And if so, when should incorporation occur and why in that time frame?
The Woodlands has an efficient form of government created by special legislation that prevents annexation by Houston and Conroe until November 2057. In the meantime, I believe our governing body should work collectively as a community to hire consultants, attorneys and experts in the areas of consideration. Incorporation is not just a why and when question. It's a how and how much will it cost the residents and business owners. We need to be fiscally responsible and dilligent in our choices in order to make those decisions. I'm highly concerned that decisions are being made due to misinformation. The Township department heads stated in a meeting on September 12, 2016 that there are many unknown factors and costs for our future incorporation. The costs will lead to taxation increase for residential and commercial properties.
Facts are necessity when dealing with budgets, future road maintenance, restructuring The Woodlands governing body, municipal structures and our law enforcement. Once we have the facts, we should listen to residents to create a timeline based on majority opinion. I believe that as governing body our leaders should devise a strategic plan, budget and define how to transition into an Incorporated city. At that point it should be presented to the public by forum.
