John Nicks

declared

My name is John Nicks and I am running for Precinct 21 Chair.

I'm a successful business owner across Houston, Lifelong Republican, State Convention Delegate, and a Montgomery County Resident for 14+ years.   I believe all politics are local and I am ready to fight the fight.

Our current precinct 21 chair chooses to do nothing to grow the party and very rarely attends the CEC meetings.  I believe we need to have someone active and ready to get out and block walk, make calls, and do everything in their power to keep 21 Red and Make Pct 21 Better Again!

Questionnaire

General

Please describe what you believe are the most significant issues in this race, why and what you'll do to address them?

Let's face it. Democrats are taking over while we do nothing but fight at CEC and the Woodlands Early Voting Site giving the democrats ammo.

I would vote to want to bring both sides together and need the hate.

Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform? And if not, please enumerate what problems you have.

Yes.

What differentiates you from your opponents?

I'm the one that is the most active in my precinct.

I am the only one from Pct 21 that was there from Start to Finish at the 2018 Texas GOP Convention in San Antonio.  I'm was first to file and first to have a Facebook page up, etc.

The incumbent, Alan Moore, chooses to do nothing and sit inactive while Democrats take over Pct 21.  My other opponent has not once shown up to a CEC Meeting, attended a CEC or state convention and according to GOPDataCenter, only votes every year.  Feel free to compare Republican votes of myself and him in there for yourself.

I have done everything that a precinct chair does with the exception of running a precinct convention.  I have watched MCRP and other Precinct Chair training videos,  block walked, phone banked, attend the CEC meetings and been an election judge more than once.

Precinct Chair is a passion of mine, and I would appreciate your vote.

What best describes your political ideology most(circle only one).
1.        Republican
2.        Grassroots
3.        Conservative
4.        Tea Party

1. Republican

Please list 3 federal agencies that are popular in our culture and should be abolished

In no order.

BLM - Bureau of Land Management - Too much control on land, like what happened in 2014 with the Bundy Case

DOE  - Department of Education - Lets the state and local school district handle what is best.

VA - Veterans Affairs -  We need to let private clinics and hospitals treat our veterans and get the same healthcare coverage as our US Congress gets for free at no cost to the veteran.

Should Texas GOP limit their elected officials to 8 years or less from the same office, even though it will force some good candidates to leave an office?

No, no term limits on anyone.

When you leave office what accomplishment/s do you want to be your hallmark, your legacy, and why?

That Pct 21 is the reddest precinct in all of Montgomery County and have democrats scared to campaign in Pct 21.

Taxes

What form of federal tax law do you support (e.g., current, flat tax, fair tax, other) and why?

What we have now is what I support.

The only changes I could see are giving apartment complexes some sort of breaks as they are rated as commercial and pay a much higher tax per apartment than a normal home.  For example, I live in a 222 apartment complex over 12 acres. Its appraised at $19 million.  The current tax bill is 433,523.  By math alone, $162.73 of my rent  for a small 1 bedroom apartment alone each month goes to paying the property tax

A couple of years ago, a resolution was put forth by MoCo GOP to institute a 20% Homestead Exemption.  Did you support or oppose this and why?

Yes.  We are taxed enough already. I believe apartment complexes need some of that cut.

2nd Amendment - guns

Do you believe the Second Amendment grants an individual right or a militia right?

Individual Right.   I am a LTC holder myself and very much pro 2nd amendment.

10th Amendment

Please explain your interpretation of the Tenth Amendment and the principle of nullification. Do states have a right of nullification? What should the federal government do if a state attempts nullification?

I believe the states need to have more control over what goes on locally and leaves the Feds out of the picture.   Yes, I believe Texas has a right of nullification for everything that comes from DC.

Other civil liberty

Do you support or oppose federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other agencies that perform abortions, both in the U.S. and abroad (even if they use money derived from other sources)?

I am against all abortions at all stages and all agencies that perform abortions.

At what point should the "right to life" or "personhood" be granted to new human beings (e.g., at conception, birth, 5 days old, etc)? What action, if any, will you take to reflect this in law?

Abortion should be illegal and all stages of a baby's life in the womb.

Education

Do you support or oppose allowing parents direct the flow of federal education funds (e.g., to their school or home school of choice)? Support? Oppose? Please explain.

Yes I support it, but I feel the kids need to have a major say in their education.

Ethics

Do you agree with precinct chairs involvement in republican primaries? Why or why not?

Yes.  We need to get voters out to know the Republican candidates running.  We don't want them to get involved with the Democrat primaries by the Republican Precinct Chair doing nothing.

What's your impression of GOP Speaker Dennis Bonnen after he was caught offering a Quid Pro Quo to Empower Texans Michael Quinn Sullivan?  Should Speaker Bonnen resign?  Should he suffer legal ramifications for his action/s?

I believe Dennis Bonnen should resign for several reasons including the actions in the recording and his failure to get HB 357 / Constitutional Carry passed.  It's time to move on from Bonnen and get a conservative Speaker

Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? Arrests/Convictions? Bankruptcys?

At one time I was very much against the police, especially Conroe PD and make threats.

I took some time to think on it and changed my views to support the police, and even apologized for my actions and no formal charges were ever filed on it.

Immigration

What, if anything, should be done to protect our borders from illegal immigration?

Yes.  We need President's Trump Border Wall, nice and tall from California to the Gulf of Mexico.

We need to tax 15%-20% off wire transfers leaving the US for Mexico to help pay for the border wall.

We need to fingerprint them that come across illegal and stop all govt assistance like free education, housing, and healthcare.  They need to be deported and banned from ever being legal US Citizens

We need to make the process simpler to become citizens for those that come here LEGALLY..

Amnesty comes in many forms.  What's your view as it pertains to Texas?

It should be granted if they have changed.

Transportation

Do you support or oppose the referendum passed by both the MoCo GOP Executive Committee and SREC to allow voters, at the statewide level, to decide in the voting booth whether or not they want a particular toll road?  Why or why not?

Yes.  I believe it should be voted on by all citizens in the county.

I was against the 242 flyover tolls and glad that they are gone.

I do not support the 249 tollway in Montgomery County but would support the Hardy Toll Road being expanded north.

I travel into Houston often and take the Hardy Toll to 610 during the week.  The $3 one way is worth avoiding the traffic headaches on 45.

Did you take a public position on the May 9, 2015 Road Bond, and if so, what was it? And in a few sentences, explain why.

Yes.  I was against the bond.  It had too much waste like the Woodlands Parkway extension and maintenance in the budget.

Other

What does being a conservative mean to you?

Traditional values and attitudes in relation to politics.

Do you support the Montgomery County Republican Party By-Laws as adopted by the CEC on 6/26/18?  And if not, why not?

Yes, I believe they are valid.  I do believe both sides should come together and work on bylaws that is ambiance for both sides now to be approved for 2020, like how Dr. Wally wanted from the start.
