I was born and raised in Montgomery County, and I am a graduate of Conroe High School. I am a wife to a wonderful and supportive husband, and a mother to two active teenage boys. I attended college and have a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources and a minor in Public Administration. I owned an editing business for 10 years and managed a family construction company during that same time. I have worked for Montgomery County for over 9 years. I began as a clerk in the Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Division. After 4 years, I was promoted to the Administrative Assistant to Chief Randy McDaniel, under Sheriff Gage. I was later asked to join Commissioner Noack's team in Precinct 3. I have managed the senior center and the 4 community centers in South County for the past 4 years.

General

This is a Republican primary race.  Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform? And if not, please enumerate what problems you have.

Yes, I promise to abide by the RPT platform.

What are the three main reasons you are running for this office? Do you see any potential conflicts of interest?

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Public Administration and a minor in Human Resources. I have worked for Montgomery County for over nine years and am familiar with the budget process and other aspects of county government. I owned an editing business for 10 years and also managed a family construction company during that time. I am trustworthy, have a strong moral character, and I hold myself to a higher standard. I have strong Christian values and a servant's heart. Doing what is best for the public is what I strive for, including offering great customer service and going that extra step to help in whatever areas necessary.

Please describe what you believe are the most significant issues in this race and why.

The people deserve someone in office who is there to actively serve them and to serve them with a smile. All government offices belong to the people and we, as candidates or elected officials, need to remember that we work for the people. Working for the people includes supporting and working with the other government offices and businesses that we conduct daily business with. Customer service and teamwork are essential.

Is the board seat you seek to be elected to effectively fulfilling its role? How or how not?

No, I do not believe that the office I am seeking is effectively fulfilling its role. After 23 years of the same leadership in the County Clerk's office, I believe that there is complacency; there is room for major improvements that will benefit the tax payers.

Please describe the best way for the average voter to determine which candidate for this office is best.

Candidate forums are very beneficial. This allows the average voter to see and hear all the candidates and make an educated decision. The average voter needs to look for the candidate that is educated, is willing to serve them, has their best interests at heart, is fiscally responsible, and believes in their same principles and values.

What have you done to prepare for serving in this role?

This is a leadership role, and I have proven my ability to lead by managing a successful career. I have earned promotions, and I am greatly respected by my staff and my peers. Part of my education focused on Human Resources and Public Administration, which are both major components of all government offices.

What have you done, or will you do, to reduce the size of the government?

I will evaluate and streamline the department once I am in office. I will only use the personnel that will be needed to accurately and efficiently serve the needs of the people and the courts.

Who is endorsing you and what is their relationship to you?

I have not sought any endorsements at this time.

What do you primarily rely on to help you make difficult decisions as it relates to public policy?

I rely on the evaluation of all of the facts and the known needs of the people. It is also important to evaluate the budget and finances that could be directly impacted by public policy. I also rely on my conservative values and beliefs.

Why are you running for this office and what 3 major goals do you want to be measured by if you are elected?

I am running for this office to make a change. I believe we need a new vision. I would like to be measured by (1) How well I served the public, in regards to customer service and public requests; (2) How I spent their money, being fiscally responsible and not frivolously spending; and (3) How efficiently I performed for both the public and the courts.

What other endeavors/responsibilities do/would you have besides being the clerk?

I am a wife and a mother of two high school boys; one is currently a senior and the other is a sophomore. Other than my family, this position will receive 100% of my focus.

Do you favor term limits? Please explain why or why not.

Yes, I do favor term limits. I believe that term limits are essential for fresh, new ideas. It is easy to become unaware and complacent when holding a position for too long.

Budget

What are the top 3 areas where the budget for this office needs to be adjusted?

The budget will be evaluated in all areas to determine the most beneficial and necessary adjustments.

Do you support using zero-based budget practices for every governmental entity, elected and appointed?

Yes, I do support using zero-based budget practices. I believe that the budget should be based on current needs and not necessarily prior history.

Ethics

Are you, in any way, related to any MoCo elected or appointed officials or to other MoCo employees?

Yes, my husband, Tim Stewart, has been the Construction Manager for Montgomery County for the past 2 years.

How will you improve the transparency and access to financial and other records for the public?

I will ensure that all legal access is granted to financial and other records for the public.

Please list Civic, Political or union organization or individuals to whom you have contributed (five years).
