What 2 things about your opponent do the voters need to know?
1. Matt Mitchell was part of the lawsuit leveled against duly appointed Precinct Chairs. As soon as he was countersued, he dropped his suit.
2. Matt Mitchell, by his actions, supports the efforts of the Republican Party Chair to undermine the efforts of the majority of Precinct Chairs to follow RPT rules and etiquette.
This is a Republican primary race. Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform? And if not, please enumerate what problems you have.
Yes, I promise to abide by the Republican Party Platform.
Define what the word "Conservative" means to you.
To me, a conservative is a person who believes in fiscal responsibility, free markets, constitutionally limited government, individual responsibility and accountability, and the right to own and protect themselves and their property.
Are you willing to put in the time necessary to attend CEC meetings, additional committee meetings, training sessions, blockwalking, etc?
Yes. As a precinct chair one of the primary roles is getting people out to vote. The precinct chair is also the first line of representation for our constituents. If you are not working with, talking to, and communicating your constituents concerns and needs, you should not be a precinct chair.
Do you think the 'Republican' brand should be used by PACs in their names that may deceive voters? Why or why not?"
No. If we allow a PAC to use the Republican brand, they must be vetted by the Republican Party to guarantee the PAC will follow the RPT platform exactly. Any deviation from the platform would require an immediate revocation and a public apology with, depending on the extent of the deviation, the requirement to return any funds donated.
What best describes your political ideology most(circle only one).
1. Republican
2. Grassroots
3. Conservative
4. Tea Party
3. Conservative
How do you believe precinct chairs should be involved in elections? (election judge, clerk, none?)
Precinct chairs should be a resource for citizenry regarding the political process, election integrity and election laws. The chairs should be promoting Republican values to all voters during each election cycle especially during early voting and election days.
Do you like the Steering Committee style of leadership currently in place or that of just a county chairman?
I support the Steering Committee style of leadership. Committees narrow a field to a reasonable number of voices and avoids decisions by individuals.
Do you beieve that the county chair/precinct chairs should actively participate in at least one committee?
Yes. A chair is elected to represent their district. If not participating, why are they there?
Should the county GOP chair be involved with fundraising? Why or why not?
Yes, but only to the extent funds are raised for the Party. The Chair is a representative of the party and in a high-profile role which would increase the chance of fundraising success. Any specific candidate endorsements should be avoided.
Should party primaries be "open" or "closed" & why?
Primaries should be closed. This is the time when Republicans get to vote for who will represent their values in the election. Open voting allows people to manipulate the primary voting results by choosing a candidate that would ensure victory for the opposing party during the General Election.
Should the GOP County Chair be selected by the elected County Executive Committee, or in the Open primaries where Democrats can cross over for more moderate candidates?
The GOP County Chair is exactly that – GOP. Democrats and independents should have no say in who represents the GOP.
There's discussion about making major revisions to the RPT Platform. Please describe the nature of any major changes you support.
I would support changes simplifying the definition of our various planks. The more specific we get, the more confusing it is to understand where the part stands and allows more bending of rules “not defined”. If the US Constitution and Bill of Rights are enough to structure the foundation the United States, then our foundation should be as simple.
What's your position on Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan?
House Speaker Dade Phelan’s actions speaks volumes. The Republican delegates narrowed down the 2023 Legislative priorities to the top 8. Thru his actions, House Speaker Phelan ignored almost every single priority and rushed an impeachment of the Attorney General. Once a representative is censured by their county, they should not be allowed to run as a republican in the next election.
